Well it is now just over a month away, the Sonics reunion show in Seattle. This is certainly the event of the season, year, decade, for music in this city. To say this show will be a long awaited comeback would be putting the wrong impression out there. This show was never supposed to happen, too many reasons not to do it, health issues, fear of ruining a legacy, inability to find the right venue, etc. Apparently those have been resolved and reports of their shows in New York, London, Barcelona, and elsewhere over the past year have been extremely positive. And make no mistake, these shows over the past year should be viewed as warm-ups for their Seattle appearance. This will be a show for the ages and if the rumored rock star appearances come true it will be a media event of the likes never before experienced by this decades long underground force of a band.
The Sonics are recording again and should be releasing new material sometime in the coming months. I have no idea what to expect, but with fingers crossed I hope for a strong exclamation point for their career. These Northwest hero’s from Tacoma don’t need to put out any more records, but if that’s how they want it I’m certainly not going to be the one to say don’t bother.
As always, Rock On! And we’ll talk again,
Martin
